梁欽榮會長憶述他在任內最難忘的事時指,他上任後第一次訪問北京便獲時任李鵬總理接見,當時已向總理提出國內中西部經濟發展如與東部地區差距太大,會對政府管治、經濟與社會穩定均有影響;因此訪京後,廠商會成立了中西部委員會探討國家中西部地區的發展機遇,並考察了湖南、湖北、江西、陝西、內蒙古和甘肅6個省份,與當地簽了不少商貿合作協議,促進內地與香港之間的經貿合作。
