黃友嘉會長的父親早於60年代已經加入廠商會,故他對廠商會早有認識,而他向來對公共政策素有研究和興趣,故於1994年加入廠商會,希望能有機會為業界發聲,並向政府建言獻策。他並提及成為會長前在廠商會的工作,包括負責籌辦3屆十大名牌選舉,擔任商會會刊編輯聯席主席、兩岸三地商貿委員會首兩屆委員,以及廠商會蔡章閣中學校董等。

尹德勝會長指50年代初期只有廠商會代表工業界,加上曾任會董、副會長的父親也希望自己的第二代能參與會務,貢獻業界,故他便跟隨父親的步伐,加入廠商會。尹會長亦憶述成立廠商會檢定中心的始末,同時亦提到因曾擔任廠商會職業先修學校的校監多年,故在他服務廠商會期間,特別重視教育方面的工作。
