陳永棋會長分享了他在任期間難忘的經歷，其中一件令他引以為傲的工作，便是為廠商會制訂一個由成員自由選出會董及會長的制度，開創四大商會先河。陳會長當年亦積極提升廠商會的地位，並加強與華南地區政府部門的交流，幫助內地官員解決外貿等難題。此外，他認為香港製造業要持續發展，長遠要發展自己品牌，故在他領導下，廠商會於1999年成功舉辦首屆「香港十大名牌選舉」。
陳會長比較歷年來香港經濟環境的變化時指，以往政府較重視工業，但近廿年房地產變成支撐香港經濟的支柱，政策過於傾斜，租金昂貴令營商環境變得艱難。不過，他認為香港仍具有不少優勢，有利投資和營商。

陳永棋會長任期內香港經濟正受SARS嚴重打擊，有幸CEPA的簽訂，香港得到很多便利和優惠待遇，使經濟很快便恢復過來。陳會長又提到，十分支持中小企和年輕創業者到國內發展，並樂意為他們提供支援。
