CMA President Wingco Lo Concludes Successful Trade Mission to Bahrain
Dr Wingco Lo, President of the Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong (the CMA), has successfully concluded a fruitful two-day visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain. During his stay, Dr Lo met with H.E. Mr Ni Ruchi, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Kingdom of Bahrain, and held discussions with key Bahraini government officials. He also visited Dragon City, a major commercial hub for Chinese businesses in Bahrain, to gain insights into the local business environment and explore potential areas of collaboration.
After completing the Bahrain stop, President Lo will lead a 20-member CMA delegation to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar to continue the association’s Gulf Region mission.
Reflecting on the visit, President Lo expressed optimism about the growing cooperation between Hong Kong and Bahrain under the Belt and Road Initiative. “As one of the most diversified economies in the Gulf region, Bahrain’s relatively open and business-friendly environment offers great potential for Hong Kong enterprises looking to expand,” said President Lo. “With the government actively developing industries such as financial services, professional services, smart manufacturing, green technology, logistics, and ICT under the Bahrain Economic Vision 2030, there are a wide range of opportunities for investment and collaboration.”
President Lo also highlighted the significance of the recently enacted Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (IPPA) between Hong Kong and Bahrain, which provides stronger legal safeguards for Hong Kong investors. Coupled with Bahrain’s strategic role as a trade and logistics hub within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), the country provides ideal conditions for Hong Kong enterprises to expand into the Middle Eastern markets and strengthens their resilience amid global economic shifts.
He expressed sincere gratitude to H.E. Mr Ni Ruchi, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Kingdom of Bahrain, for his support. He also thanked the Bahraini government leaders for their warm hospitality and personal engagement, including: H.E. Noor bint Ali Al Khulaif, Minister of Sustainable Development and Chief Executive of the Bahrain Economic Development Board; H.E. Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro, Minister of Industry and Commerce, and H.E. Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Finance and National Economy. Their warm welcome reflects Bahrain’s strong commitment to deepening ties with Hong Kong.
President Lo also expressed appreciation to Mr Oscar Chow, Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of Bahrain in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Dubai, and all relevant authorities for their thoughtful arrangements that contributed to the success of the visit.
